Tuesday July 5: the day I made Sam wear a sign to the OR 😂
Sam had to get another lumbar puncture in the OR today (July 5th — but I am writing this on July 26 — sorry for the confusion 🤪) so I made him wear a sign. He thought I was out of my mind so folded it up on his lap as Levi wheeled him to the OR. Nurse Jess in the OR arrived and asked him “what is that on your lap?” He answered her with the quintessential teenager response — something to the effect of “my mom thought this was a good idea and I think it’s lame,”. Nurse Jess thought it was genius! Ha — redemption for this mom. Take that cancer!
He wore the sign but did not allow any photos to be taken (teen’s gotta teen even when he has cancer 🙂 and I love him for it). So I recreated the sign for this post.
Dr. Miffly, the anesthesiologist, thought the sign was a great idea too. He explained to Sam the difference between Ketamine and propofal, the anesthesia that he was going to use. Because the lumbar puncture was done by our attending oncology pediatrician last week, she had to use ketamine (propofal is only used by anesthesiologists).
