March 29, 2024: 1 year anniversary post stem cell transplant (Day +366 — LeapYear!)
Today is the 1 year anniversary of Sam’s stem cell transplant.
So grateful for all the support from you all, from Sam’s medical team, and from science that got us to this point.
We celebrated by delivering cookies to the Bass Center, the 500 unit at Lucille Packard Hospital (hematology/oncology), and to the 520 unit (Stem Cell Transplant). All of them have been key to getting Sam to this point.
Also enduring and colossal gratitude to John, Zack, and Alec Bonnard. John is the best dad, the best person, the best full stop. Zack is the best brother, the best spirit, the best energy And Alec is my “borrowed son” — the best friend and medicine that ever existed for Sam.. Thank you to Karin and Matthieu, Alec’s parents, for raising a most exceptional human.
From the medical side — Sam’s 1 year check for leukemia came back as all zeros!! Amazing. #FULeukemia
We are going to spend this spring break (which starts now!) going to Disneyland (Sunday through thursday for Zack and John and Tuesday - Thursday for me and Sam) as a family for the first time in 5 years (thanks Covid and leukemia).
Then Sam will travel to visit some colleges where he gained admission.
It’s been an amazing year. A year we don’t for granted. Please give our gratitude to your own immune system for all that it does to keep you healthy.
Closing this edition listening to Zack play La Bamba on his trumpet. Take us out Zack. ❤️
