March 29, 2023: Guess who’s our night nurse tonight?

Wednesday, March 29, 2023 · by kathy howe
John!  The young man who we first met in August when Sam got admitted on the fly due to low sodium. It was a Friday night and we were still in the very early days of living and navigating this marathon. Our heads were still spinning and in walked John. I’m not sure how we got to this — maybe it was because we were staying on the Stem Cell Unit for the first time instead of on the Heme/Onc Unit??  I don’t remember. What I do remember is how I felt when he told me “I had B cell ALL 10 years ago and I got a stem cell transplant.”

Wow. Wow. Wow.

And we haven’t had him as a nurse or even seen him during our admissions since then, and guess who walked in the room tonight.

I will take the symbolism.
