Endoscopy

Friday, May 19, 2023 · by John Lilly

The endoscopy went well this afternoon, and visual indications are that Sam doesn't have evidence of GvHD, but rather gastritis, probably caused by the chemo before his transplant. Straightforward to treat (but also definitely necessary to treat, as Sam's lost maybe 10 pounds over the past week). We'll hopefully get back tissue analysis from the lab tomorrow that's more definitive. Assuming nothing surprising here, I think pretty good chance we get Sam home in the next day or two.

Also bonus: I now know what the insides of Sam's esophagus, stomach & small intestines look like! Exciting day.

This is a great preliminary finding. Hope it’s borne out by the tissue analysis and you and Sam can go home soon.

Great news! Also this bonus view into Sam's GI tract could be a whole new, edgier version of the Disney film "Inside Out".

Wow! Seeing the inside of your kid - didn't really think that was a thing to anticipate back when we were having our babies. LOL! Sally's cute little endoscopy picture results just came back -NO gastritis. Sorry Sam's was positive, but I'm glad it's treatable. Fingers crossed that he gets home SOON!
