March 30, 2023: Day +1

Sunday, April 2, 2023 · by kathy howe

Thursday was Day 1 and John was with Sam overnight from Wednesday and into mid day so he can add on here what that time was like.

Thursday PM: was pretty exciting as he got his 2nd infusion of stem cells.  And according to Dr. Shyr it was 8 million per kilo so that means the donation was much more than I’d thought: 8x72.5 kg = 580 million ?!?!?!  So 290 million went in today.

The liquid was clear this time — no blood products, just pure stem cells (Wednesday’s donation included gamma and delta t-cells, natural killer cells, macrophages - all the “helpful” cells and no cells that promote graft vs. host disease. Thursday’s didn’t have any of those; just stem cells).

It took 30 mins or so again to go into his body and it was, again, both a life changing event and just another period of time and life experience for Sam. Steady as she goes temperament = medicine.  Again, it was all gravity driven. Let’s go gravity!

ps. That’s the cooler that the cells arrive in. Super high tech 😂.
